Digital Citizenship: It's All in the Family

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Digital Citizenship lessons need to begin as early as possible with students and families, so that by the time the kids reach middle school they have a concrete understanding of how what they share and what they say will effect themselves and others. But it is not just students who need to understand the all encompassing social media world. Parents also need to be shown the effect social media can have.
This year we used Google Sites to create a digital safety unit for K-5 that included games, videos, journals, and more. Participants will "play" their way through the presenters unit and learn what worked and what needed to be tweaked. In this session participants will learn to use Google Sites to create a blended learning unit on digital citizenship. They will learn to search for age appropriate activities for each age level. How to share with parents and let them know the wonderful, but some times dangerous world of the internet. Participants will also learn how they can become certified through Common Sense Media as a digital citizenship educator.
